Four-Lane Upgrade of Guntur–Bapatla–Chirala State Road

The G.B.C. State Road is a crucial economic connector carrying agricultural produce from Guntur’s farming heartland to Bapatla’s coastal trading hubs and Chirala’s textile and weaving centres. Its two-lane configuration meant congestion was routine, especially during peak agricultural seasons, impacting quality and delivery schedules.

With proactive engagement between MP Tenneti Krishna Prasad, the Andhra Pradesh Roads & Buildings Department, and CM Chandrababu Naidu, the state government approved the proposal in principle to expand the G.B.C. road into a four-lane high-capacity highway.

Project Details:

  • Type: State Road Upgradation (2 lanes to 4 lanes)

  • Funding: State Government

  • Status: Approved in principle

  • Implementing Agency: AP R&B Department

Beneficiaries:

  • Farmers moving produce to coastal export points.

  • Weavers and textile traders in Chirala accessing bigger markets.

  • Residents benefitting from faster travel for work, school, and services.

Impact on Daily Life:
Safer, faster travel will lower transportation costs, increase business competitiveness, and make the route attractive for more investment.

Segment & Sector:
State Road Expansion | Transport, Agriculture, Trade

Long-Term Vision:
Fully integrate the coastal economy with the hinterland through modern high-capacity road links.
