Bapatla and Chirala are two of the busiest stations in the South Central Railway zone, serving tens of thousands of passengers daily. However, for decades, these stations suffered from outdated infrastructure, inadequate passenger amenities, and limited accessibility, which affected travel comfort and tourism potential. Platforms lacked modern passenger conveniences, ticketing facilities were outdated, and access for elderly and differently-abled commuters was insufficient. This infrastructure gap limited economic opportunities for local vendors, constrained the region’s tourism growth, and diminished passenger satisfaction.

Understanding the importance of these stations as gateways to the region, MP Tenneti Krishna Prasad pursued their modernization under the Ministry of Railways’ Amrit Bharat Station Scheme — a flagship programme aimed at upgrading fifty key railway stations across the country. With constant follow-up and coordination with Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, these two stations were prioritised, and works were accelerated to ensure that passengers experience world-class facilities.
